Board of Adjustment & Appeals

This is a Board that is made up of the five council members of the City of Gretna. It is their duty to review recommendations from the Administration for the demolition of blighted properties. Owners of property can appeal to this Board for consideration of their position.

The Gretna City Code of Ordinances outline duties and responsibilities of the Board of Adjustments and Appeals and more specifically Chapter 18-497 reads as follows:

"The city council shall be deemed and established as the ex officio board of adjustments and appeals and/or board of review.

Pursuant to R.S. 33:4762, the mayor, after receiving a written recommendation from the building official for the demolition of a building or structure, shall thereupon serve notice on the owner of the building requiring him to show cause at a meeting of the board of adjustments and appeals why the building or structure should not be condemned. The date and hour of the meeting shall be stated in the notice which shall be served at least ten days prior to the date of the hearing except in case of grave publicemergency. The notice may be served by registered or certified mail, addressed to the owner at his last known address. Service may also be performed by the city police department."
