Volunteer Gretna!

Please contact the Mayor's Office if you wish to volunteer your services to the City of Gretna.  There are many opportunities for those who wish to get involved with the community or its government.

 

 

Ever coach a team?  Our Gretna Recreation Department is always looking for self motivated individuals who wish to work with our youth.  Our Baseball season for girls and boys is rapidly approaching, so please contact Tommy Trahan, Recreation Superintendent at 363-1597.

 

Our city can always be cleaner and we can improve our green space.  Monitoring businesses and residential areas is needed to assist our Regulatory Office to enforce our ordinances.  Call the Mayor's Office and join the effort to "Keep Gretna Green and Clean!"

 

Our elderly participate in different activities at the Gretna Senior Center.  Gretna and the Jefferson Council on Aging needs volunteers to deliver meals to the home-bound seniors. Calling out Bingo numbers or teaching a class of your specialty could mean a world of difference to our senior community.  Please call the Mayor's Office at 363-1505 or the Gretna Senior Center.

 

Certain Boards and Commissions have been created by Ordinance and appointments by the Mayor and City Council are required to participate.  Gretna is looking for those individuals who are willing to volunteer and serve our city in an official capacity.  Appointments require applicants to adhere to the State of Louisiana Board of Ethics rules and procedures.

 

This commission is appointed to oversee the development and changes to our buildings in our two local historic districts, Historic Gretna and McDonoghville.  New and old, business and residential developments must submit plans prior to issuance of a building permit must be approved by this commission. 

 

Our trees in public rights of way are getting older and decaying.  Planting new trees in an Urban Landscape is a requirement of Tree City USA and this board oversees plantings and recommends to the City policies and procedures for smart planting in the future.
