In order to accommodate the parking needs due to growth of business in downtown Gretna, the City is proposing a change to the current parking layout. The intent of the Park Gretna plan is to relocate parking of employees of area businesses, including staff of City Hall, to make more space available to the public that do business in the downtown area.
Some areas that were controlled by traditional parking meters of the past will be serviced by an electronic kiosk system. Unlike kiosk systems that print receipts that must be displayed on the dashboard, the proposed system utilizes license plate information. Visitors will enter their license plate number when making payment and proceed on with their business without having to return to their vehicle. Additional time can be purchased either at the kiosk or via a mobile phone or similar device without the need to return to the vehicle.
The rate charged will be the same that has been in effect traditionally, which is $0.25 per 15 minutes.
Permits will be available for residents and/or businesses who provide proof that their property is located within the proposed area.
