This 125th annual program is Jefferson Parish's oldest annual community event and honors public school philanthropist John McDonogh, presented by the oldest, continuously active school in Jefferson Parish, McDonogh No. 26, established in 1891. In return for his legacy of 39 public schools to the New Orleans area, all he asked was that students place flowers around his grave annually. Friday, May 1, 2015, 9:45 a.m. at the John McDonogh Cenotaph, McDonoghville Cemetery, 520 Hancock Street, Gretna. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at John McDonogh VFW Post 3121, 475 Monroe Street, Gretna. Free and open to the public.
