German Tour Group Visits Gretna
Meir's Welreisen German Tour Group at the German-American Cultural Center.
In an effort to further promote international travel to Louisiana, the Jefferson Convention and Visitors Bureau partnered with the Louisiana Office of Tourism to showcase Jefferson Parish to eighteen tour guides from Germany on November 13th and 14th, 2015.
The Meir’s Weltreisen German Tour Group arrived ready to experience Jefferson Parish and to sample our local cuisine; and what better setting, than Jefferson Parish’s City of Gretna, steeped in German Heritage.
Tricia Cook with the Jefferson Convention & Visitors Bureau, Inc. and Ronnie Gauthreaux with Gretna Tourism partnered with the City of Gretna to provide our German guests with a scenic walking tour of the Gretna Historical Society Museums; i.e. German- American Cultural Center, The Kittie Strehle House, the Gretna Green Blacksmith Shop, the Louisiana Fire Museum, Gretna City Hall (Mayor’s Office) and the David Crockett Firehouse. Our international guests returned to the German-American Cultural Center where they enjoyed live music, great conversation in German and delectable cuisine served by Gattuso’s Restaurant.
Gretna received compliments from the tour group indicating they are excited to bring groups back to explore more of Gretna’s German heritage.
Visitors were provided a tour of the Gretna Blacksmith Shop, part of the Gretna Historical Society Complex on Lafayette Street.
