Ferry Schedule for Gretna Heritage Festival 2011
Thursday, October 6th through Sunday, October 9th.
Vessels operating between Gretna and Canal Street:
Thursday: 1 vessel all day, with extended operating hours to accommodate the concert that night. The last trip from Gretna is Scheduled for 11:30 PM.
2) Friday: 1 vessel until 4:30 PM at which time 2nd vessel will go in service to handle the anticipated large crowds. The last trip from Gretna is scheduled for 12:30 AM.
3) Saturday: 2 vessels beginning at 2:00 PM. The last trip from Gretna is scheduled for 12:30 AM.
4) Sunday: 2 vessels, beginning at 1:00 PM. The last trip from Gretna is scheduled for 11:30 PM. As the end of the festival day draws near, departure times between are subject to modification as dictated by traffic demands.
5) Special Operating Considerations:
a) All passengers shall board and disembark through the terminals, not the vehicle bridges.
b) Marine Maintenance will place portable toilets aboard the vessels for passenger use.
c) GHF will sell tickets aboard the vessel. Passengers who state they are taking the ferry but NOT going to the festival are to be directed to the GHF personnel for further instructions. GHF will make provisions to escort these people through the fairgrounds upon arrival at Gretna.
d) NO BICYCLES will be allowed to board at Canal Street to go to the fest. Marine Maintenance will provide bike racks on Canal Street landing barge. NO MOTORIZED SCOOTERS will be allowed to board vessels. Passengers will not be allowed to bring ice chests, food, beverages, etc. into the festival grounds.
e) Passenger will be allowed to board at Canal Street up until shut down.
f) As closing time nears each night, GHF officials will coordinate departure times from Gretna to clear up crowds.
g) On Friday the #1 vessel shall depart Gretna on the half hours and Canal Street on the hour, and the #2 vessel will depart Gretna on the hour and Canal Street on the half hour.
h) On Saturday, the crew of the #2 vessel will report and take the vessel to Canal Street to begin service, departing Canal St. at 1400 hrs. The #2 vessel shall depart Canal Street on the hour and Gretna on the half hour. Saturday will be the same except that service will begin at 1300 hrs. This schedule is subject to change as dictated by traffic demand as determined by Marine Maintenance or GHF officials. Each night, departures from Gretna will be dictated by traffic demand departing the festival.
i) Maintenance personnel and CCCD police will control crowds per Mardi Gras procedures. USCG personnel may also be on the vessels.
