JEFFERSON PARISH HOSTS PUBLIC MEETINGS ABOUT UNMET NEEDS AND
RECOVERY PRIORITIES IN RESPONSE TO HURRICANE IDA AND SEVERE STORMS

JEFFERSON, LA – The Jefferson Parish Department of Community Development will host two public meetings to gather citizen input on priority areas in which to spend federal disaster recovery funds as a result of the impacts from Hurricane Ida and the declared disaster events in 2020 and 2021.

The first meeting will take place at the Joseph S. Yenni Building (Suite 405), located at 1221 Elmwood Blvd. Jefferson, LA 70123 on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 4 p.m. The second meeting will take place at the Gretna Library, located at 102 Willow Dr. Gretna, LA 70053, on Wednesday, August 16 at 4 p.m.

Jefferson Parish has received a total of $30,143,147 targeted to support economic revitalization and resilient infrastructure.  The funds are allocated through the State of Louisiana Office of Community Development from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) CDBG-DR program. These funds are restricted to be used in eligible categories under the following two programs.  The funds cannot be used for individual home repairs or homeowner elevations.

  1. Hometown Revitalization Program (HRP)– $18,008,737 CDBG-DR allocation. This program is designed to encourage new economic opportunities, restore jobs and revitalize commercial districts that suffered major damage as a result of 2020-2021 disasters.
  2. Resilient Communities Infrastructure Program (RCIP)– $12,134,410 CDBG-DR allocation.  This program is designed to fund unmet needs for infrastructure repair or development in areas impacted by the 2020-2021 storms.  This includes projects such as drainage improvements to reduce flooding, replacement of flood mitigation structures, or relocation of public buildings from high-risk to low-risk areas.

All citizens, particularly persons of low and moderate income and residents of areas impacted by Hurricanes Zeta and Ida and the May 2021 Severe Storms, are encouraged to submit their views and project input. A survey to gather citizen input is included on the meeting agenda, which is available on the Parish’s Public Meeting Calendar at www.jeffparish.net/events. The deadline for public input is September 15, 2023.
