Tourism

The City of Gretna Tourism Office assists visitors to the City, arranges tour groups and helps coordinate special events. The Tourism Office is in the Heritage House Welcome Center at 1035 Huey P. Long Avenue. Welcome Center hours are Tuesday – Friday, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

November 24 – Lighting of the Oaks along Huey P. Long Ave.

DECEMBER 2023
December 2 – Ringing in the Arts at the Farmer’s Market Pavilion

December 1 – 17 – Passport to Christmas promotion event.  Get your Passport to Gretna for deals and discounts at participating businesses.  Collect enough stamps to enter for a chance at a gift basket worth over $1000. Winner pulled during the Farmer’s Market on December 17.

December 1 – 3 – Picnic Under the Lights.  Rent a clear bubble tent up the beautifully lit Oaks on the neutral ground of Huey P. Long Ave. Rental sign up begins November 1, call 504-363-1580.

December 3 – Tree Lighting and Christmas Parade on Huey P. Long Ave. near 6th Street.  Parade route starts at 5th near Richard St. head down 5th towards Huey P. Long Ave., turns right on Huey P. Long Ave, u-turns at 1st street, heads down Huey P. Long Ave. towards 10th Street, u-turns again and ends at 6th and Huey P. Long Ave. Parade rolls for 5 p.m.

December 7 – 10 –Luna Fete West: River Connections and Student Art Contest Celebrating the Mississippi River–and the connections it creates–with an exhibition of projections, light artworks and a parade of lit puppets. Every night will also present other types of art and music. Visit the webpage.

December 9 – Shop the Huey Holiday Market at the Gretna Cultural Center, over 80 vendors selling holiday related items from 9 a.m – 3 p.m.

January 2024
January 24– Toast to Mardi Gras, choosing of Gretna’s King/Queen

January 25 – GREDI King Cake Social

January 26-28 – Bubbles on Parade – Held the Weekend of the Mardi Gras Kickoff in Gretna.  Rent a clear bubble tent under the beautifully draped Oaks of purple, green and gold lights.

January 27 – Krewe of Cuties Parade, details to be announced at a later date.

February 2024
February 12 – GRELA presents Lundi Gras in Gretna at the Farmer’s Market pavilion.  Free concert with food and beverage for purchase.

February 17 – Annual Valentine’s Day Concert at the Gretna Cultural Center.

March 10 – Italian-Irish Parade rolls in downtown Gretna!

March 23 – Seersucker Soiree and “Shop the Huey” Easter Market– Artists and musicians along the streets of downtown Gretna.

April 6 – GRID Crawfish Cookoff

MAY 2024
May 11 – Maifest – Extended Arts and crafts and plants sale market along Huey P. Long Ave.(8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) with a German Beer Garden at 5th and Huey P Long (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.) sponsored by the German-American Cultural Center.

October 2024
October 4-6 –  GRETNA FEST 2024!!! Complete lineup and list of vendors will be available on the Gretna Live App.

October Every Friday – Back to the River Fall Concert Series.  Free concert at the Riverfront amphitheater for 6 p.m.

October Every Saturday – Back to the Drive In – FREE Family Movies at the Amphitheater, 6:30p.m. Concessions will be available for purchase. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Movie starts at dusk.

October 19 – Citywide Yard Sale on the neutral ground of Huey P Long Ave. from 6th to 8th Street and throughout the 70053 zip code.

October 19 – Oktoberfest a German Beer Garden at 5th and Huey P Long (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.) sponsored by the German-American Cultural Center.

October 19 – Pumpkin Patch at the Huey P. Long Ave. neutral ground from 6th to 8th street  9a.m. – 3 p.m. Free photo opportunities and games for the kids to enjoy.

October  – Chili Cook-off, downtown Gretna, Main stage batture area.

November 11 – Veterans Day celebration at the Farmer’s Market Pavilion
