Recycling Drop Off
When and where is recycling available?
Beginning Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., recycling drop-off will be available at the Gretna Waste Drop-Off Facility, 1201 Burmaster Street. Recycling will take place on the first Saturday of every month.

Who can participate and what does it cost?
The service is free for Gretna residents. The fee for non-residents is $35 per visit.

Is this service self-serve?
Yes. Recycling is self-service. Please pre-sort your items before arriving to help shorten wait times. Representatives from Glass Half Full will be on site to answer questions and assist residents.

What items are accepted?
- Glass bottles and jars (no mirrors, broken glass, ceramics, pottery, etc.)
- Cardboard
- Aluminum, tin, and steel cans
- Plastics #1 and #2
- #1: soda and water bottles
- #2: milk, juice, shampoo, and detergent containers
- Mixed paper
Do items need to be cleaned?
Yes. All materials must be clean and dry. Rinse food containers before recycling. Greasy pizza boxes, heavily soiled take-out containers, and other contaminated items should be placed in the garbage to prevent contamination and mold.

Should recyclables be bagged?
No. Do not bag recycling. Place items directly into the bins. Thin plastic garbage bags and filmy plastics (such as single-use grocery bags and packaging) clog sorting equipment and must be recycled separately. Most grocery stores accept these materials for proper recycling.

How should materials be prepared?
- Break down cardboard boxes.
- Crush cans to save space.
- Remove caps and corks from bottles and jars.
- Rinse glass containers that held food.
- Sort glass by color: clear, bright green, and brown/dark green/miscellaneous.
- Sort mixed recycling as directed on site.
